In the endeavor to fight the Covi-19 viruses and other possible contaminations UV-C.Solutions has developed COVIBUSTER 01 and a ROBOT SAM application. After careful research and references of institutes and applied systems in the Medical & Food sectors the right UV-C wavelength is selected to kill viruses and especially Covi-19 and other bacteria and fungi. Based on high intensity UV-C radiation various solutions are available for Schools, Hotels, Offices, Waiting Rooms, Gym, Malls, and any other public area.
 

 

1.1 Introduction COVIBUSTER 01

The Corona crisis is changing the world. In addition to having a clean and safe workplace / social area, a hygienic clean and viruses-free environment will be demanded as well. Because viruses are not visible to the naked eye, an appropriate measure will be the basis for convincing employees and visitors, that the everything possible is done to prevent contamination. Nevertheless, it will be a challenge for many people to return to their familiar workplace and travelling routines and feel comfortable to make use of commercial & public areas again.

Considering this we developed a system to clean the offices, schools, institutions, hotels and any other conceivable area to reduce the risk of contamination on the safest and most efficient way possible and to the highest possible level.

Our method is based on proven technology and practices and has been used in hospitals and food industry for a long time. It guarantees a contactless, quick and efficient cleaning method.

We apply special selected high UV-C light sources that emits on a harmful frequency, especially for the Corona virus, other viruses, and bacteria. This destroys the DNA of all bacteria, viruses and even fungi or algae in general and the Corona virus in particular. The UV-C radiation instantly deforms the DNA and eliminate the virus, keeping the operation cycle very short, only a few minutes.

This form of disinfecting areas is an addition to the existing cleaning and can be easily combined with the cleaning activities and executed by the cleaning staff.

And the goal: a safe and virus-free area is easily achieved in this way.
 

1.2 Technical Purpose

The COVIBUSTER 01 exist of a main unit and 2 shadow units (sub-systems), all to be used at the same time. The sub-system (shadow lamps) provide the UV-C radiation from another angle, ensuring that most place are hit by the radiation and the disinfection is completed as much as possible.

The COVIBSUTER 01 operates on 230 V and is equipped with a 5 m connection cable. Operating time is 3 -5 minutes per area of max 5x5 m2 and is easy to operate by one person. For a larger room, it is advised to apply either a longer disinfection time, or even better to re-position the COVIBSUTER 01 to ensure maximum effect of the UV-C radiation.

With COVINSUTER 01 a radiation measurement device is supplied, which connects through bleu-tooth to a tablet / phone. The data of the radiation measurement can be used for reports and reference to disinfection level.
The UV-C last for long operation, estimated 3 years before replacement. No further items are to be replace. General maintenance, proper storage and cleaning applies.

The COVIBUSTER 01 is designed and manufactures in the Netherlands by UV-C Solutions according European government law and regulation. CE register is applied.
The applied technology has reference to various studies and pro-types, which performance has been well documented by universities and other institutes. The COVIBSUTER 01 is designed along these parameters and adjusted for todays required, especially considering the Corona virus. 
The operation is simple, and the safety instruction are to be followed. As this is high intensity UV-C light some caution during operation is required.

The COVIBUSTER 01 is equipped with a motion sensor which will switch off the system, in case someone enters the room during operation.
 

1.3 Operation

The COVIBUSTER 01 is positioned in the area to be disinfected. The 2 sub-units (shadow systems) are positions to reach areas not to be reached by the main system. When activated a buzzer will inform anyone to leave the area, after 1 minute the system will be activated automatically.
During operation an alarm will sound and the UV-C light will disinfect the area hit by the light from viruses and other bacterial contamination, which will take only a few minutes.
Once the alarm stops the operation is completed, the system switches off automatically and the room can be safely accessed. No harmful radiation, vapors or gases remain.

The COVIBUSTER 01 can be moved to the next location and the operation can be repeated.

The COVIBUSTER 01 is an addition to the regular cleaning activities and can be operated by the cleaning staff. The selected UV-C radiation is basically harmless to people, but might lead to sunburn response if exposed for some time, hence the areas need to be evacuated.

A UV-C protective safety google is supplied, to ensure when the staff enters the room after operation, they are fully protected, in case the machine has not switched of.

2 Safety

OPERATION UV-C

The COVIBUSTER 01 is equipped with high intensity UV-C lamps which radiate a light that is harmful for living organisms. Hence a careful operation is required.

However, the UV-C radiation is not deadly for humans or larger organism when exposed shortly, but we can’t take any risk. Specially care for the eyes is required as this is sensitive tissue.

This type of radiation is also applied to additional disinfect special rooms in hospitals or to kill harmful organism in food sources and drinking water supply.

The use is therefor well known, and the safety measures well developed.

Once the COVIBUSTER 01 and the sub-systems are positions and switched-on the room has to be evacuated and it is best to remove any form of living organism.

Once the system is activated the location is to be evacuated within 1 minute, a buzzer sounds. The motion sensor will detect any further movement, if no movement is detected, the radiation will be activated automatically and for 1 minute an alarm will sound.
In case the system has to be switched off, this can only be done by the emergency switch. The motion sensor will detect any movement within a 25 meter radius, way in the safe zone of the radiation and switch off the COVIBUATER 01 immediately.
Special instruction emergency switch-off:  In case a staff member has to enter the room to apply the emergency switch, make sure arms and legs are covered, special safety glass are worn. The staff member can now enter the room and apply the safety switch as soon as possible. The system stops immediately.

Just to confirm, the radiation is not harmful when only shortly exposed, hence the above operation is valid.

Reference and why UV-C radiation works for disinfection. Once the installation has started, no one is present, because the rays are harmful to people, as they reach an intensity thousands of times higher than sunlight. However, if someone tries to enter while it is working, the device will only shut down by means of a safety mechanism. Ultraviolet light also does not pass through a solid surface.

This is a system used in some U.S. hospitals to disinfect rooms for Ebola patients. This technology is applied in areas of high asepsis, such as delivery rooms, ophthalmic operating rooms, central operating rooms and ICUs, in addition to the usual surface cleaning techniques.

 

This is how UV disinfection works on a cellular level.
High intensity ultraviolet light is produced by xenon flash bulbs across the disinfection spectrum known as UV-C. This UV-C energy passes through the cell walls of bacteria, viruses and bacterial spores. DNA, RNA and proteins in the microorganism absorb this intense UV-C energy. and it offers four mechanisms of damage against pathogens. These pathogens are vulnerable to light damage with UV-C energy at different wavelengths, depending on the organism. The main types of cell damage caused by UV-C light are photohydration (removal of water molecules in the DNA that prevent transcription), photo examination (breaking of the DNA backbone) and photo dimerization (incorrect fusion) DNA bases).

In addition, photo reticulation causes damage to the cell wall and can cause cell lysis, an irreversible form of cell death. Full spectrum disinfection helps prevent pathogens from recovering. Damage caused by this Xenon UV-C lamp stops DNA repair mechanisms for most pathogens in less than 5 minutes. In addition, UV-C produces higher energy wavelengths than other UV sources, leading to damage to cell structures, including the walls of broken cells. The UV-C lamp gives a beautiful blue glow when generated, it is used in lamps ranging from high speed electronic lamps used by photographers to solar lamps to bactericidal lamps used in food preparation and processing.

Evaluation of the effectiveness of UV disinfection Studies have been conducted in 160-bed health centers for long-term care. After each resident was discharged, their room was cleaned and then disinfected with a newly purchased ultraviolet light disinfectant. Shared living spaces received UV light disinfection every week. 36 months of pre-test infection and hospital data were compared with 12 months of post-test data. Pre and post cultures were taken from high contact surfaces and luminometric measurements of adenosine triphosphate were taken. Household infection rates were analyzed relative to hospital infection rates using analysis of variance.

Results

There were statistically significant decreases in adenosine triphosphate readings on all high-touch surfaces after cleaning and disinfection. Culture results were positive for firing or gram-positive bars in 33% (n = 30) of the 90 surfaces cleaned at baseline. After cleaning the disinfectant, 6 out of 90 samples (7.1%) were positive for gram-positive bacilli and after ultraviolet disinfection, 4 out of 90 samples (4.4%) were positive. Significant decreases were observed in the number of homes acquired in relation to hospital infection rates for total infections (p = 0.004), urinary tract infection rates (p = 0.014), respiratory infection rates (p = 0.017), and infection rates of skin and tissues (p = 0.014). Hospital admissions for infection decreased significantly, with a notable decrease in hospital admission for pneumonia (p = 0.006).

 

Conclusions

This study provides evidence that the ultraviolet disinfection device can disinfect by reducing microbes on environmental surfaces, as well as reducing infection rates and hospitalization rates for infection. The results suggest that a greater emphasis on disinfecting environmental surfaces in long-term care facilities may reduce acquired infections.
